Peace, Love and Sandy Friends
Everyone loves a costume party...right? I mean, if you know someone who doesn't, I'd end that friendship quickly and start reconsidering your "friend" guidelines. It feels like it's been forever ago since we were able to escape to Khanom for a good party. We had been given a few weeks notice about the 60s themed extravaganza that Jam Bay would be hosting, which gave us plenty of prep time.
Our first idea was to tie dye! It's easy, it's fun, I'll probably wear it again...how hard could it be? Well, had we been state-side, this would have been no problem. Unfortunately, Thailand could not meet our hippy needs and we resorted to "reverse tie dying", where you use bleach to pull out the color of your clothes. My roommate and I hosted a "Thai Dye" night and had everyone over to make some groovy shirts and far out headbands. Some of the participants were unable to dye their fabrics because they weren't 100% cotton - it doesn't matter what the woman at the market told you, she lied! But for the most part, we had a few decent pieces come out from the experience and everyone gave their shirts their own flare with fringes, cuts, or knots.
Costume parties are great...but really any excuse for me to wear a headband sounds like a blast! Since I've been festy-deprived these last few months, my inner Dead Head was craving for some great headbands. Angela and I picked up flowers, somehow found a hot glue gun in town, and got our Martha on! I ended up giving my masterpiece to Dani Jo, but scored a great celtic knot (t-shirt) headband from Alyssa!
(Phil is usually in charge of our photo shoots, but Marie took the reigns this evening and directed us from behind the lens.)
(Someone couldn't hang with the big kids and hit the hay early).
(Headbands? Headscarves? Who cares! Just give me headwear!)
I came across some great new jeans...and then was chased by the owner...and then pushed in the sand.
